PTC Mission

The Polymer Technology Center serves the state of Texas and the nation by providing the best possible polymer science and engineering education, grounded in engineering fundamentals, to prepare our students to be leaders in the polymer industry.

Our center and students will make significant, innovative contributions to the polymer science and technology base on which industrial competitiveness is built and will provide opportunities for lifelong learning and technology dissemination through continuing education, service, and outreach.

Active since 1986, the Polymer Technology Center (PTC) includes 16 faculty members, 16 industrial partners and 30 students. Annually, our funding for polymer research alone exceeds $2 million.

PTC Strategic Focus

• Pursue and Develop Leading Edge Technologies.
• Train Professional Scientists and Engineers that will make significant contributions to polymer field.
• Foster Synergistic Interaction with Texas A&M University disciplines.
• Coordinate Industry Support for Mutual Benefit.
• Create and Establish a Federal Research Center for Polymer Science and Technology.

Educational Service

The Polymer Technology Center, a division of the Texas Engineering Experiment Station, is a cooperative program of the departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Aerospace Engineering and Civil Engineering.

The PTC also features an educational component of graduate and undergraduate courses, Master's and Ph.D. degree programs with polymers emphasis, and seminars for students, faculty and industry partners.

Service to Industry

The Polymer Technology Center has two interdisciplinary consortia that support education, research and training in the area of polymer science and engineering. PTC also has strong ties to the business community through industrial advisory boards, which provide guidance in research direction, as well as academic and short-course curriculum development.
